A Life…Less Ordinary

Can you have it all? We believe we do, and we invite you to see for yourself.

NBMC is the largest regional health care provider on the Oregon Coast. As a cooperative, we are a physician led company, offering you entrepreneurial freedom with group benefits. We serve a half dozen communities with both primary and specialty care services. The South Coast is a wonderful place to live, practice medicine, and raise a family. You will not find a better sense of community than practicing among the hardworking Oregonians who call this beautiful place home.

  • All the opportunity you could want. Our providers are in high demand so you won’t be looking for something to do. But you will have flexibility of practice and lifestyle.
  • Providers are critical and respected members of the community. Many of our providers are not just leaders in their field. They are difference makers in their communities.
  • Remember that old American idea of neighbors knowing and looking out for each other? It is alive and well here on the South Coast.
  • If 5 star shopping, dining, mega sports arenas, and the opera are your cup of tea we may not be the place for you. If being part of a real community that enjoys the outdoors, low home prices, no traffic, family activities, and Friday night football games sounds like your idea of heaven then don’t wait— give us a call!

Our area boasts Oregon’s first community college with thriving programs from Nursing to a Culinary Academy. We have a rich arts community with local theatres, music in the park, and an art museum. Beyond the typical culinary offers of a small city we have access to the freshest seafood on the planet and there are many successful independently owned restaurants of every type for every taste. We even have our own local microbrewery!

Tioga Community Health Services

Tioga is a community-based, 501c3 nonprofit housed at North Bend Medical Center (NBMC) in Coos Bay, Oregon. Tioga was established in 1996 by several visionary physicians and community members.

The primary purposes are:

  1. To promote inter-professional collaboration and organizational capacity to develop innovative solutions to improve community health;
  2. To collaborate with educational organizations to develop community health resources, outreach and prevention initiatives;
  3. To encourage people on the South Coast of Oregon to consider occupations in rural health care;
  4. To improve the ability of the community to recruit and retain health care professionals;
  5. To support health care professionals and residents of the South Coast by providing community health education in the form of educational and resource materials, classes, and seminars.

The first original initiative since the early 2000s is a youth mentoring program for children in 1st through 4th grades. Lani Schreiber is directing the project and has widespread community support.

Tioga is directly involved through volunteer efforts, outreach, and development with the Community Health Improvement Plan Coalition. For more information on the coalition, please contact Public Health Director, Florence Pourtal-Stevens.

Tioga is the fiscal guarantor for Reach Out and Read, a long-standing program directed by pediatrician, Dr. Deleon. Reach Out & Reach provides books for children during their well-child visits at NBMC and Bay Clinic. The program continues to secure funding from the Bay Area Hospital Community Foundation.

Recently, Tioga was granted, and NBMC matched, $5,000 to establish a scholarship for SWOCC students pursuing degrees in Allied Health and Nursing.
