Dr. Somera was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. She received her undergraduate education at the University of the Philippines – Diliman, Quezon City where she completed a Bachelor of Science with a Major in Psychology in 1995. She spent the next four years in medical school at the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. She did her Postgraduate rotating Internship year at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan, Metro Manila, from 1999-2000. Dr. Somera then moved to the United States in June 2002 for her Internal Medicine Residency Training at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois. After residency graduation, she took on her first job as a primary care physician at North Bend Medical Center in November 2005.
Dr. Somera enjoys the autonomy and flexibility of her private practice, and the camaraderie among physicians/health care personnel within the clinic and community. Living in Oregon has opened up new adventures (from hiking to snowboarding) and new activities (from crabbing and clamming to tuna canning) for her. A far cry from the city where she grew up in, Coos Bay, Oregon has proved to be an unexpected but comforting home for Dr. Somera.
